5 Clues From Joe Rogan For a Life Well-Lived
Not many people will know Joe Rogan personally. I sure as heck never thought I’d be one of them. So I didn’t want this opportunity to pass without sharing with you what I learned from Joe…
1. PERSONAL TOUCH… Prior to the podcast, Joe personally let me know when and where to be. I assumed he would have an assistant running everything for him. He was on time, but messaged me shortly before to say “I’ll be there in 15 minutes.” The #1 media source on Earth right now doesn’t need to let his guest know that! But he did anyway.
2. TRENCHES… Within minutes of arriving, Joe was on his hands and knees playing with my 1-year-old, Onyx. He had an automatic massage ball and figured out that Onyx liked playing with it. Joe taught Onyx how a little button turned the massage ball on, and Onyx quickly learned how it worked. Without hesitating, Joe asked one of his staff to order him another so Onyx could keep this one. Ever since I started to get any attention as Kneesovertoesguy, I have used “TRENCHES” as a mindset that no matter how successful you get, you never stop getting into the mud of life in order to help people. Joe’s time may be the most valuable of anyone right now, yet he played with my kid as if it was the most important thing in the world. From Joe personally setting up the podcast with me, to playing with Onyx, there is no doubt about it… Joe has never left the TRENCHES.
3. HOW YOU TREAT OTHERS… From the moment Joe entered the studio, he was communicating with his staff exactly like you would talk with valued friends… I could tell he was genuinely FRIENDS with every single person on his staff. He treated each person like an EQUAL. When you become as successful as Joe Rogan, you can get away with treating people as if they’re beneath you. Nope. Not Joe. I’m still beaming inside, knowing that this incredible success happened to someone who didn’t let it change how he treats people. Does money provide more security in life? Sure. But your FRIENDS are even greater security. With enough friends you have ample people to support your business, and you have people you can turn to if things go south. Would I be there for Joe if he needed me? Absolutely. But imagine how many others would. Joe may be rich in money but I would measure the truest richness in how many people appreciate your existence. Joe might be the richest man in the world.
4. INTEREST… I never felt nervous on the podcast because Joe was interested the whole time. This drew my attention to the subject matter, not to the millions of people who could potentially see me mess up. When you’re doing your job, why not be ALL-IN for every moment of it? Joe was THERE — the ENTIRE time. This is an underrated aspect of success in a given task: the ability to be in the moment with your attention on your client/guest/etc. This was the biggest moment of my life. I was Joe’s 1,766th guest. But he made me feel like I was guest 1 of 1.
5. NEVER STOP IMPROVING… This is a mindset that — regardless of what you achieve — you’re still trying to improve rather than settle. After the podcast, Joe showed me the gym he’s building for his family and friends. Joe was wondering how he should set up the sled and turf, which is the exercise equipment I am most passionate about. From conversations with some of his staff, I could tell it would improve their lives if I got them onto a 5-minute-a-day sled routine for old injuries that now make exercise NOT FUN. Joe said I could come teach them once it’s ready. Per points 1–5 covered so far: I would come in, be interested in every single staff member, get on my hands and knees to coach them through the details of exactly what to do. I would leave without any other goal in mind than those I’m helping now knowing how to ENJOY exercise again. And that will make me richer. Joe could be living on a tropical island without any “stress” or responsibility. Instead, he is still attacking life and trying to improve in any way he can, for himself, his family, his staff, and his audience of millions around the world.
Conclusion:
If you ever wondered how Joe Rogan earned the most-engaged media audience on the planet, here’s the math formula:
Value Out = Value In
Do you honestly think any other media source is helping others as much as Joe Rogan right now? I don’t think so. So it only seems fair that he now has the most viewers.
The closer you get to truth, the simpler life becomes.
If more of us apply points 1–5 above, we can create our best civilization yet.
