The Only Exercise “DON’T” I’ll Ever Tell You, Plus My 2 Most Valuable Pieces of Exercise Data
The Only Exercise “DON’T” I Will Ever Tell You…
Plus My 2 Most Valuable Pieces of Exercise Data
First, know that I see EVERYONE in the field of exercise as part of a team whereby our INCOME is connected more to people doing WELL than suffering.
That’s a beautiful thing.
It’s unfortunate that in some industries, the income is connected more to people suffering than doing well!
But we’re still a human team.
Human species vs human health.
And we’re down 40 at halftime.
Now, if you ran the same play the whole first half, you’re going to need to shake things up in the second half.
More specifically, you’re going to have to bring out some SENSATIONAL ABILITY to win that game.
Example:
Ultra-processed food now makes up the MAJORITY of US calorie consumption.
Solution?
Well, my wife and I are educating our kids and they have to MAKE THE FOOD every day at lunch period, using real foods.
Their ABILITY will be exceptional compared to the usual system.
Am I really expecting other school systems to make this switch to the KIDS making the food each day?
Well if we don’t, we’re screwed!
Doesn’t matter what I think is realistic or not.
Moving on: The field of exercise…
It’s an observable fact that as manual labor has gone DOWN, back problems have skyrocketed UP!
I’m merely pointing out that all the DON’T-DON’T-DON’T advice is not necessarily accurate with the history of human movement and health.
“No knees over toes” and “no deep bending” set back the field of knee health for 40 years.
Both are proven false.
But I’m NOT advising working through pain.
Those positions looked awful to me when my life was a surgery/painkiller mess.
My two biggest contributions have been:
1. Educating on how backward walking IS knee over toes with every step.
Increasing resistance and speed is how I got off painkillers over a decade ago!
2. Educating on how you can SEGMENT and REBUILD a deep squat.
10 years of the ATG Split Squat has fundamentally changed my lower body for a lifetime.
(Unexpected side-effect: hip flexibility way beyond the norm as well!)
So my only DON’T is:
DON’T broadly tell people how NOT to move.
And my only DO is:
DO chase EXCEPTIONAL ABILITY at whatever you do in life to help people!
The team needs it.
Yours in Solutions,
Ben
